As the Managing Director of Springer Medizin Austria, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the overall operations and strategic direction of our publishing activities. This position requires a visionary leader with strong managerial skills, a deep understanding of the publishing industry both editorially and commercially, and the ability to drive growth and success.





  • Develop and implement strategic plans to drive the growth and profitability of the Austria Medizin business inclusive of the Health Economy team.
  • Identification of local market opportunities, trends, possible partnerships and portfolio diversification opportunities.
  • Provide visionary leadership to align the commercial and editorial teams with the company's overall mission and goals.
  • Manage the budget for the Austria Medizin P&L, ensuring fiscal responsibility and profitability.
  • Creating and maintaining a positive and appreciative corporate culture that ensures values such as integrity and collaboration and anchors them throughout the company.
  • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team that covers Sales, Editorial and general Vienna office management.
  • Collaborate with department heads to optimize workflow and enhance productivity.
  • Acquire sponsors and management of program planning for the Austrian Healthcare Industry (Health Economy) Congress.
  • Communicating regularly with the various stakeholders (senior management, customers, authors, publishers, professional societies, etc.) ensuring that their needs and expectations are met, and continuously expanding the network.
  • Assume Director responsibility for Springer-Verlag GmbH Wien.



Necessary qualifications and skills:


  • Extensive experience in a senior position within the publishing industry or pharma or healthcare agency. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the specific business processes, trends and challenges of the publishing industry and healthcare market in Austria.
  • Proven leadership skills to effectively lead and motivate a team including the ability to set clear goals, inspire employees, develop talent and create a positive and appreciative culture.
  • Ability to develop long-term organizational goals and design appropriate strategies and plans to achieve those goals.
  • A good understanding of financial management, budgeting and analysis of financial data.
  • Good communication skills to communicate effectively with internal and external partners; the ability to convey clear messages, listen well and communicate complex information clearly.
  • Strong problem solving skills to analyze problems, find creative solutions and actively take action to overcome obstacles.
  • The ability to recognize opportunities to grow and develop the business. Willingness to take risks and pursue innovative approaches to drive the business forward.
