Job Title:  Head of Author Marketing, Greater China

Location: Shanghai/Beijing


Purpose of the Role 

The role is responsible for Journal and Book author marketing planning for China, with a strong focus on OA, driving joint success for our strategic business goals in China, i.e. regain OA market share and APC revenue growth, in close collaboration with other teams within marketing and beyond. This will also be an essential role in delivering the success of the China related investment cases with a strong focus on Collections, New Launch Accelerator etc.  


  • Collection of required input from global Marketing Strategy/Planning and strategic business units in China where appropriate. 
  • Work with the Director Marketing Planning and Customer Engagement, Greater China to manage and develop innovative and effective marketing plans that align with Springer Nature short- and long-term goals, by prioritizing and coordinating China marketing calendar and resources, delivering scalability, efficiency and reporting as required.
  •  Lead the China author marketing team to develop data-driven campaigns (mainly digital but also offline marketing) along author lifecycle marketing, with improved conversion rate and ROI, measured by the acquisition of high-quality submissions, improvement of author loyalty/engagement, satisfaction etc, with a strong focus on Collections and New launch programs. 
  • Collaborate across the China marketing teams and wider marketing teams e.g., APAC Marketing Operations team to streamline processes, to ensure synergies and maximum reach of the appropriate audiences, e.g., integrate content marketing programs e.g., OA education pieces into author campaign, support B2C growth by surfacing relevant Solutions products within author journey etc. 
  • Manage effective channel mix and tactics optimized for the Chinese market to build marketing best practices.
  • Monitor budget and expenditures closely with an eye on allocations and resources. e.g., liaise with local agencies, vendors.  
  • Team management. 
  • Reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • University degree
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills in front / virtual of global audiences & proven track record to work globally. 
  • Must be able to work to tight deadlines and anticipate and react quickly to changing priorities.
  • Oversee and drive activities for team to improve current working practices/products/ technologies to grow the business.
  • Proven team management experience
  • Strong ability to self-organise, prioritise, multitask, and work under pressure.
  • Understanding of our target markets and ability to develop innovative strategies to reach them.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with other functional groups and gain cooperation from others.
  • Strong team player and collaboration capabilities, and able to inspire people through own conduct and behavior 
  • Fluent Mandarin and English/ written and spoken.
  •  Solid experience in marketing (10+ years), strong digital marketing skills cross multiple channels are required.
  • Ability to use a wide range of tools to deliver effective marketing campaigns and assess data.
