User Experience Lead, Monetise
We're looking for a lead user experience designer to join our growing global UX team at Springer Nature and work within the Monetise group.
The Monetise group is responsible for driving revenue by connecting the needs of our users with the products and services we can provide. Springer Nature sells books, ebooks, and digital subscriptions to business and consumers. We also support Licensing of books for Institutional use, as well as selling services that support research authors, such as Scientific Editing and Academic Translation.
You will be part of the Springer Nature global UX team and embedded within the Monetise team. The role is based in Pune (India) and you’ll be working with colleagues in locations such as London (UK), Lisbon (Portugal) and Berlin (Germany), so expect some travel.

What you'll be doing
You will be working to support the full range of design work in your area. You will partner with other domain leads, product and UX Research to understand the steps your area needs to take to play its part in delivering on our strategic goals.
It will be your job to ensure that the user experience is coherent, user-focussed, and delivers a best-in-industry set of tools and services whilst helping foster a culture of innovation.
Within 3 months

Understand the goals of the programme and the near-term challenges

Work with UX leads in other domains and within the Experience Group to understand the overall user experience, how this domain will support other initiatives, and where opportunities might be.

Identify and meet with key stakeholders and customers.

Work with your partner domain leads to develop and structure the domain so that it is set up to deliver excellent outcomes for our users and our business.

Work with partners in UX Research, among others, to understand what research will be useful and to establish a longer-term research plan to fill gaps in understanding.

Manage UX Design resources for the stream, supporting the hiring goals, identifying where there are resourcing issues and escalating those to both the Head of UXD and Domain Lead.

Align the UXD team to work towards a user-centred approach to the domain's goals.
Within 6 months

Create a culture of research and testing on the programme in tandem with Lean product development.

Create a programme-wide understanding of what Monetisation should mean for SN's digital delivery - its scope and opportunities.

Align the UX team towards a common vision of how users of all kinds need to interact with our platforms and services.

Develop an understanding of and align the domain around an understanding of our internal users - e.g. marketing and other domains in Springer Nature Digital who will need to use the platform we create in ways that impact the end experience.

Continue to collaborate closely with other UX leads to ensure that work programmes align and deliver for all our customers.

Promote the work the UXD team does to the wider company and beyond

Get senior stakeholders and management on board with our research approach and how it moves the programme to deliver excellent user experiences.

Work with the group product owner, VP of Product and senior stakeholders to reshape outcome setting and processes to unlock innovation potential.

Working with the group product owner and VP of Product, shape the programme around users' actual experience – not individual products – and deliver maximum value to them and the business.

Ensure that discovery and innovation are at the heart of all work.

Make user-centered design part of the domain culture.
User Research responsibilities
You will be directly responsible for setting the research direction for the programme. Our Research Lead will support you in designing and establishing a research programme to set strategic direction for the future.
You will:

Develop a research plan. You'll do this in conjunction with the partners in the research team and the UX team in the domain within the first three months.

Work with the Research team to create, update and recruit for programme research activities.

Support recruitment, organising, planning, and help with research activities.

Create a culture of sharing findings within the project, programme, and design teams.

Get the team involved in research activities where feasible.

Support user research activities on teams.
Line management responsibilities
You'll be line managing people, ensuring they're challenged, developing and becoming even better. You'll be mentor, coach, champion and supporter for your direct reports.
You will

Help create performance objectives and coach and monitor the progress of reports.

Define job descriptions using our preferred "performance-based hiring" approach when gaps in resourcing are identified and drive the UXD recruitment within the domain

Deal with line management admin issues such as leave requests, sickness and approval of software and hardware requests.

Escalate any HR issues to both the Head of UX and HR.
