The Data & Analytics Solutions - IT team provides the technical and domain expertise required to create and maintain the databases and shared services for our end customers. Our flagship products, namely Springer Materials, Experiments, ADIS Insight & Nature Navigator, are built by a team of developers, QAs, BAs, UI & UX experts and SMEs, who collaborate to ensure easy accessibility of relevant data. About the Role:

 

The job is based in Pune, where you will be part of Springer Nature’s digital product development team. You’ll be part of our big community of developers in Germany, the UK and India, to name a few.

 

We are searching for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team and make the most of working in a fun environment while learning from the best. We are working with a team located at multiple locations around the globe.


We seek a Senior Data Engineer who can code in Python, SQL, and Cypher. Knowledge of Big data Frameworks like Spark and Dataflow is necessary. Experience with cloud computing is preferable. We need a proactive, self-driven candidate who can handle stakeholders in technical design, solutions, implementation, and release. The candidate should be able to build a good rapport with stakeholders. The candidate should be proficient in both written and verbal English communication.

 

During your first six months, you will be expected to be flexible with work timings. You need to adjust working hours to collaborate enough with UK stakeholders and / or teammates based on the UK time zone.

 

You will join a cross-functional delivery team with different nationalities, backgrounds and experience levels. All team members collaborate to deliver solutions that best satisfy the needs of our business. We are working to create a culture that encourages new ideas and innovation within the boundaries of the technologies that best suit the vision that Springer Nature has defined.                

  

Role Responsibilities:

 

Agile product team, day-to-day, you will:

  1. Take part in our daily stand-ups.
  2. Collaborate with Data scientists/ Software developers to better understand their data requirements.
  3. Build data pipeline modules to ensure the smooth functioning of our data products.
  4. Develop new automation to ensure timely data feeds run continuously.
  5. Build more and more domain, product and business knowledge.
  6. Mentor junior team members with their work.

 

What you will be doing

 

Within 3 Months, you will:

  • Familiarise yourself with the technological stack, which includes a data warehouse, application databases(SQL and NO-SQL), and graph/vector DB.
  • You will also get to know the extended team members, our mission, and the protocols/procedures we follow daily.
  • You will also learn about the domain through our various data sources.  

 

By 3-6 months, you will:

  • Have a basic Understand the team’s context and product’s business model.
  • Build more knowledge of the product and domain and mentor new teammates.
  • Be able to understand and discuss business requirements with stakeholders and Product Managers and help other disciplines with these conversations.
  • Gain the trust and confidence of project stakeholders.
  • Hold technical discussions with the team to improve the product architecture and code quality and better understand the overall product.

 

By 6-12 months you will:

  • Lead data engineering products and services across the entire product lifecycle from inception to retirement, proactively seeking decisions to create and retire products.
  • solving complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
  • Develop a solid understanding of the product’s business and domain and have the technical expertise to participate in discussions of Design and architectural changes.
  • Onboard new members to the team or help other teams in the onboarding process.
  • Transform high-level requirements into actionable work.
  • Work with global teams on plan, Design, implementation and release.
  • Build product features and help stakeholders to solve customer’s problems innovatively.
  • Be a supportive member of the tech team and set up peer/code review processes to ensure good quality delivery.
  • Proactively provide valuable and actionable feedback to all team members and stakeholders.
  • Triage support queries and diagnose issues in the live applications.
  • Understand our customers’ internal and external needs and how your work affects their experience.

 

About You

  • Educational Qualification: B.Sc., BCA, BCS, B.E., B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA and M.Sc or a technology-related field or relevant experience
  • Need to have proven industrial experience around Python, SQL and big data frameworks.
  • Should have working experience in procedural programming (shell scripting/cloud commands etc). 
  • You have senior-level experience (4+ years) data engineering handling applications.
  • Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal.
  • Write quality code that is reliable and maintainable using industry best practices (e.g., style, security, testability, and efficiency).
  • Guide company stakeholders on upcoming challenges and participate in project planning.
  • Diagnose, debug, and optimise performance of data pipelines.
  • Having a good command of English is essential; collaboration is vital in our day-to-day work, so being able to communicate your ideas and understand others’ is key.
