Purpose of the role


The Associate Marketing Manager, Social Media Engagement, Research Marketing is responsible for executing a social media marketing strategy for a cross-disciplinary portfolio of Springer Nature journals, focused on increasing
audience engagement and readership. The role is also responsible for supporting the implementation of wider social media pilots and projects across Research Marketing, to help develop a centre of excellence for social media within the business.


Key tasks


● Plan and implement social media engagement campaigns for a cross-disciplinary journals portfolio, working closely  in collaboration with marketing / editorial teams to select and promote content for social engagement with researchers
● Be an expert user of primary social channels and the platforms/tools used to optimise engagement with researchers
● Take an iterative approach to include A/B testing and develop new customer engagement approaches to expand market share in established and new / developing markets
● Ensure that social activity is consistent with brand values, policies, tone of voice, etc.
● Provide regular reporting (including recommendations) on audience engagement and provide data-driven market intelligence into editorial teams
● Share best practices with internal stakeholders on the most successful engagement campaigns
● Monitor industry trends including initiatives from other sectors and make recommendations to enhance our social medial performance
● Proactively develop knowledge of existing and emerging competitors and their audience engagement strategies
● Collaborate with Research Marketing colleagues for the assigned portfolio to establish a joined-up strategy across all marketing channels and deliver on set KPIs for readership/engagement

● Monitor expenses and budget related to paid social campaigns
● Support implementation of cross-team initiatives relating to social media engagement/social media best practice



● Undergraduate degree (ideally in publishing, business or journalism/communication/marketing) or equivalent industry experience
● 3+ years marketing/communications/or journalistic experience
● Proven track record of contributing to successful marketing and/or social media management, working within budget and focussing on proven analytics and reporting
● Excellent written communication skills, including advanced journalistic and editing competence
● Experience of copywriting, proof-reading and editing in a digital context including managing social media platforms and audience development
● Strong analytical and decision making skills
● Fluency with major online social media platforms and their analytics; experience with web analytics such as Google Analytics
● Basic image editing experience
● Enthusiasm for science, and a basic knowledge of the topics and fields
● Organised; self-motivated; able to balance priorities; able to demonstrate a calm and professional approach when working to deadlines; proactive
● Evidence of building collaborative and effective working relationships both internally and externally
