About the Role

 

Purpose of the role: Marketing Manager, Social Engagement, Research Marketing is responsible for executing a social media marketing strategy for a portfolio of journals and research communities, focused on raising the visibility of Calls for Papers within relevant communities, and highlighting the value of publishing in Collections and our journals more broadly. The role is also responsible for supporting the implementation of workflows and best practice guidelines to support message amplification from internal and external stakeholders, and for consistent feedback loops of reporting.

 

Roles Responsibilities:

 

Key tasks:

  • Plan and implement social media engagement campaigns, working closely  in collaboration with marketing and publishing teams to select and promote content for social engagement with researchers
  • Establish workflows and relationships to extend outreach within relevant specialist communities, e.g. cross-posting and providing guidance and support for external stakeholders
  • Be an expert user of primary social channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) and the platforms/tools used to optimize engagement with researchers
  • Take an iterative approach to include A/B testing and develop new customer engagement approaches to increase followers and drive reach, engagement, and site traffic
  • Ensure that social activity is consistent with brand values, policies, tone of voice, etc.
  • Provide regular reporting on audience engagement and provide data-driven market intelligence into editorial and marketing teams
  • Share and advocate best practice with internal stakeholders on the most successful engagement strategies
  • Monitor industry trends including initiatives from other sectors and make recommendations to enhance our social medial performance
  • Proactively develop knowledge of existing and emerging competitors and their audience engagement strategies
  • Collaborate with Research Marketing colleagues for the assigned portfolios to establish a joined-up strategy across all marketing channels and deliver on set KPIs

 

Skills/experience:

  • Undergraduate degree (ideally in publishing, business or journalism/communication/marketing) or equivalent industry experience
  • 3+ years marketing/communications experience
  • Proven track record of contributing to successful marketing and/or social media management, and focussing on proven analytics and reporting
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience of copywriting, proof-reading and editing in a digital context including managing social media platforms and audience development
  • Strong analytical and decision making skills
  • Evidence of building collaborative and effective working relationships both internally and externally
  • Fluency with major online social media platforms and their analytics; experience with web analytics such as Google Analytics
  • Basic image editing experience
  • Enthusiasm for science, and a basic knowledge of the topics and fields
  • Organised; self-motivated; able to balance priorities; able to demonstrate a calm and professional approach when working to deadlines; proactive
  • A commitment to developing marketing best practice
  • Willingness to learn, understand and apply new processes and technologies
  • Innovative and creative in approach
  • Good presentation skills; comfortable with presenting to and working with senior managers
  • Basic knowledge of online media law
  • Professional qualification in publishing, marketing, journalism or communications (Desirable)
  • Ability to travel internationally as required (Desirable)
