Role Overview

We are looking for a Scientific Services Lead to join the Springer Healthcare Training and MedEd team. In this role, you will be the acknowledged go-to contact for in-depth scientific/content knowledge of assigned client accounts. You will work closely with Client Services and Editorial team members to meet client needs in terms of quality, commercial focus, clinical relevance, timing, and cost. The successful candidate must excel at developmental editing of medical/scientific content, as well as managing content through workflow processes to ensure optimal quality across all aspects (e.g., writing flow, illustrations, layout, etc.). Types of training/education deliverables are diverse and span the product life cycle, including but not limited to foundational disease state and treatment landscapes, patient journeys, competitor landscapes, PI training, objection handing, targeted workshops, and staying abreast of the latest data presented at scientific congresses. This position can be located in our New York, NY; Jersey City, NJ, or Philadelphia, PA office, on a hybrid working model. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide scientific leadership on assigned accounts, including ultimate responsibility for the scientific accuracy, learner engagement, and editorial quality of any project deliverables
  • Write clear project briefs and communicate with medical writers or external thought leader contributors to ensure that content developed is of the highest editorial quality, and in alignment with client expectations and medical/legal/regulatory requirements and processes
  • Review and provide proactive developmental editing of content drafts (e.g., eLearning storyboards, slide decks, video scripts, patient journeys, etc.), as needed to ensure flow, clarity, alignment with client goals, appropriate supporting content (e.g., graphics/illustrations/call outs), etc.; amend/write new content as needed; act as lead writer, if required
  • Collaborate with editorial, instructional/visual design, and client services teams to ensure deliverables are scientifically accurate and engaging
  • Ensure client content-related queries are optimally resolved
  • Participate in all account-related calls/meetings with clients, vendors, or other external stakeholders
  • Meet timelines for each project milestone/phase on all assigned accounts
  • Monitor own adherence to budget, timelines, and utilization rate
  • Mentor more junior members of the scientific services team and provide constructive feedback
  • Work with client services and business development teams to respond to RFPs or other business development opportunities, including researching therapeutic areas, proposing curricula, and participating in pitches
  • Any other duties that can reasonably be expected of you

 

Experience, skills, and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Graduate degree (MS or higher) in a scientific discipline
  • At least 5 years of medical/science writing and editorial experience within a scientific agency environment (e.g., sales training, medical communications) required; proven creativity preferred (e.g., journalism, writing for a lay audience)
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of time
  • MS Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Proven ability to translate complex scientific materials into various formats efficiently
  • Superior problem-solving and internal/external communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, accounts, tasks, priorities, and deadlines, in a fast-paced environment

Desirable:

  • Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD)
  • Teaching experience, understanding of instructional design principles, and/or other interrelated areas of expertise (e.g., website design and development)
  • Experience in oncology, hematology, biomarkers, endocrinology/diabetes, cardiology, and/or immunology/infectious diseases
  • Experience with visual display of pertinent data or information (e.g., visual abstracts, infographics)

Annualized Base Salary Range: $125,000 – $140,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education and skill level.
