The Editor will acquire book contracts and publish books within part of an existing Pharmacology and Toxicology books program. With an entrepreneurial spirit, the Editor will drive growth of their own program and develop their own portfolio as part of the strategically defined overall portfolio of the publishing unit. Actively identifies and pursues new relevant areas for growth.



  • Pursues an active and efficient book contracts acquisitions policy through networking with scientific researchers and professionals, including: correspondence, meetings/trips, telephone, consultations with advisors, etc.  Approximately 20%-30% travel required as well as strong initiative and independent functioning.
  • Prepares and executes book publishing contracts in regard to US product.
  • Maintains and develops a circle of reviewers and advisors and evaluates their judgments.
  • Maintains continuous cooperation and dialogues with marketing, promotion and production concerning individual projects as well as general questions of mutual interest.
  • Maintains communication with US and European books editorial counterparts about specific immediate questions as well as long term strategy questions.  Works with various branches in coordination of the international program.
  • Supervises final editorial preparation of book manuscripts for production.
  • Discusses, assumes and proposes financial and budgetary plans for book program.  Ensures that financial reports, status reports, budget forecasts, etc., can be made on the basis of readily available material.
  • Develops guidelines, plans, reporting systems, etc., to implement book publishing plans. Maintains current status of all book projects in the program via reporting system.
  • Reviews and discusses new book projects and plans with books editorial colleagues particularly in overlapping areas.
  • Monitor’s staffing requirements and trains and develops staff.
  • Performs related duties as required.



  • College degree. 
  • Experience as a book editor or related book or journal editorial/publishing experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required. 
  • Must be willing and able to travel.

Annualized Base Salary Range: $66,000 – $80,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education and skill level.
