Communities Manager – Research

Location: London, New York, Jersey City,  & Shanghai (Hybrid Working)

Full Time: Permanent

Reports to: Senior Communities Manager (Research)

The Communities and Engagement team manages a portfolio of engagement channels, including online communities, blogs, and social media channels. The Community Manager – Research is responsible for the management and delivery of several highly successful online engagement platforms and channels at Springer Nature that seek to strengthen our relationships with our authors, and the wider research community around the world. This role has a particular focus on the Research Communities platform which caters to research audiences at all career stages and publishes over 2500 blog posts a year.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining, supporting and expanding the Research Communities relating to life and clinical sciences: Managing the day to day running of a set of Research Communities, including managing users, building relationships with authors and the wider community, reviewing and curating content and encouraging engagement across the platform.
  • Provide platform and content support to external and internal audiences: Ensuring that community members receive the best possible service whilst working with Springer Nature: to help them grow their networks and make the most of opportunities to access, explore, and showcase the latest research.
  • Support the continuation and expansion of visibility of the Communities: Encouraging engagement with, and improving the reach of, content on the Communities platform to reach new and wider audiences.

 

Key Relationships:

  • Collaborating with the other Community Managers focussed on different research disciplines
  • Building and maintaining a close relationship with the Communities’ external platform team and Springer Nature’s Product and Platform Group
  • Work closely with the Communities Research Content Manager to identify opportunities to create and commission content for the Communities
  • Liaising with the Research Communities Content Manager to maximise opportunities to showcase the latest research for diverse audiences 
  • Building strong relationships with editorial and publishing teams of relevant journals to facilitate the showcasing of their authors, editors and research articles through the Communities
 

Experience:

  • Experience in online communities, blogs, and/or social media, ideally in a scientific or publishing setting 
  • A demonstrable understanding of the scientific research landscape, particularly in the life and/or clinical sciences
  • Experience sharing research in accessible and engaging formats with different audiences
  • A passion for making scientific research accessible 
  • Experience of building and developing relationships with the research community and academia
  • Experience of managing projects with cross-departmental stakeholders
  • Excellent administrative, organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and senior researchers
  • Knowledge of analytics and reporting tools
  • Understanding and experience of working within the publishing industry or allied field (desirable)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Confidence in communicating and engaging with stakeholders at various levels of seniority, including researchers, editors, and other partners, in a professional manner
  • Fluent in business level English
  • High degree of organisational and time-management skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly with other members of the team
  • Ability to be a self-starter, taking ownership of tasks and accomplishing them independently

 

Qualifications    

  • A PhD, MSc, or higher scientific degree (desirable), particularly within the life or clinical Sciences, or a similar qualification or experience.

This information is only applicable to US-based candidates and the actual salary offer may vary based on work experience, education and skill level. Annualized Base Salary Range: $74,000 - $82,000.
