Job Title: Business Development Director, IME
Location: London (primary), Chester or Manchester
Short Summary of the Division
Springer Healthcare IME is the independent medical education (IME) unit of Springer Healthcare, which is part of Springer Nature. The IME team design, produce and publish independent medical education content to fulfil unmet needs in the required therapy area. The programs are funded by global educational grants and often accredited, but are entirely conceived, designed and delivered by Springer Healthcare IME and our enlisted expert faculty, in line with CME good practice.
Purpose of the Role
The Business Development Director will play a leading role in the development of the IME business and take responsibility for seeking grant funding from the pharmaceutical industry for educational activities (live events, eLearning modules, digital programs, etc) across multiple therapy areas. The role requires a high level of commitment and creativity, along with the enthusiasm and vision to drive sales and generate new business initiatives. The Business Development Director will report directly to the Global Director, CME.
Responsibilities
Business Development
a) Proactively generate new business opportunities within allocated therapy areas by:
- Conducting own research into educational needs
- Initiating discussions with clinical experts and medical societies
- Consulting with colleagues within Springer Healthcare IME (Editorial and Operations team members) and across Springer Nature
- Cross-referencing identified educational needs with pharma companies’ commercial needs
- Writing detailed grant proposal documents and submitting proposals to online global grant portals (where available)
- Where possible, meeting with and presenting Springer Healthcare IME’s capabilities to potential funders
b) Keep-up-to-date with latest developments in the Continuous Medical Education (CME) industry including compliance and codes of practice, as well as advances and innovative tactics in Outcomes Measurements and reporting
c) Become the go-to internal business development expert for international CME activities in allocated therapy areas
d) Attend and lead weekly Business Development meetings to collaborate with wider IME team to drive forward business opportunities and ensure timely delivery of all grant funding proposals
e) Work to meet and exceed sales targets for the Springer Healthcare IME group
Financial management
a) Oversee financial process to ensure timely and appropriate transfer of grant funding to the IME business division
b) Ensure all business development opportunities are logged and tracked using internal SalesForce systems
Other general duties
a) International travel, as required, to Europe and ROW
b) Attendance of IME and wider group meetings, as required.
c) Any other duties as requested by the Global Director, CME
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Required
• Have a good understanding of (and contact network within) the Pharmaceutical and CME/IME industries, ideally with a medical/pharmaceutical background.
• Experienced in business development or grant generation for a global medical education provider
• Demonstrable research, sales and negotiation skills.
• Superior communication, proposal writing and presentation skills
• Proven organisation/time management skills and the ability to be proactive and use your initiative to get results
• A self-starter who can hit the ground running and thrive in a busy environment
Desirable
• Science degree
• Some familiarity with the range of platforms and/or innovative technologies and software available for delivering educational content.
• Network of pharmaceutical contacts withing Global Grants teams

• Pro-active, resourceful and a good team player
• Adaptable and willing to take on new and different responsibilities as they arise
• Broad understanding of IME’s main therapy areas and the needs of international healthcare professionals
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
Qualifications
• Degree level (BSc preferred)
