Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Climate Change

Location: London, Berlin, Shanghai or New York

Full Time, Permanent Role (Hybrid Working)


Nature Climate Change is a multi-disciplinary journal publishing high-quality research related to all aspects of climate change. The journal’s scope includes both the natural and social sciences and economics.


We now have an opening in our team for a full time Associate or Senior Editor, with a strong research record in an area of environmental research, for example geography, environmental studies, adaptation, or social science, though strong candidates with other related expertise will be considered. The ideal candidate will have demonstrably broad interest within climate change research, including social issues, across geographical and temporal scales.

Our professional editors make the final decision on what we publish. The successful applicant will play an important role in determining the representation of natural-social science dimensions of climate change in the journal.


The role:


You will work closely with the Chief Editor and the team of editors from the natural and social domains on all aspects of the editorial process that include:


  • Manuscript selection and peer review
  • Commissioning and editing of Review and Comment articles
  • Writing for the journal


A key aspect of the role is liaising with the academic community through institutional visits and international conferences - virtually and in person - as well as engaging with stakeholders.


Applicants should have:

  • A PhD and strong research record in the relevant discipline and, preferably, postdoctoral or equivalent experience
  • Broad scientific knowledge and training
  • Excellent literacy and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to absorb and appreciate new areas of research, and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science
  • Good time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Editorial experience desirable but full training will be provided

Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor $74,000 Senior Editor: $91,000
