Senior UX Researcher

We’re looking for a UX Researcher in London (UK) to join our growing UX Research team.

The UX Research team is spread across 6 countries; our mission is to elevate the user experience research discipline in our organization and improve UX Research Operations capability to make it easier to do ux research and deliver actionable insights that will inform various phases of product development. 

You’ll be part of the global UXD practice at Springer Nature and you’ll work with colleagues around the world.


The role is based in London with a hybrid model of remote and office-based working.

About you

You are a Senior User Experience Researcher with at least 4 years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research. You have experience in researching the different stages of product development and you are always willing to try out new approaches to share and apply the findings of your research.


You have experience (or the desire) to coach less experienced researchers and you have been successful at helping them grow their confidence and technical skills.


In the past you have successfully worked with project teams to design research strategies that help them gain insights on key areas. You are also able to use research strategically to help teams move from a reactionary state to a proactive one where research is used to shape product strategy and vision.


Why we need you

The Content Consumption group supports researchers as they look for and read scientific articles and books online, as well as their search for the best journal to publish their work. We are working to reorganize the content in all our platforms, creating a better structure and more user friendly journeys for researchers and scientists to discover useful content more easily.


A critical part of this work is discovering what matters the most to our users, what are their biggest obstacles and what are the points of delights that will make the new experience a very effective and pleasant one. Therefore, we need a very skilled UX Researcher that will help us design and execute a research strategy to support teams in making the right decisions, understand the opportunities and the risks and improve our current offer.


You’ll be supported by the UX Research Team and UX Research Operations Team on a daily basis, and will work closely with the UX Research Lead for the Content Consumption domain. 


What you’ll be doing

Within 3 months

  • Absorb the research that has been done in the past to get yourself familiar with our users, their behaviours and their needs

  • Start having a broader understanding of the publishing trends and markets

  • Build relationships with stakeholders and people that are directly or indirectly involved in product and project teams across Content Consumption, and relevant teams in other parts of the organisation

  • Familiarise yourself with the research that has already been done in this area, and start to pull out gaps in our knowledge

  • Understand how our platforms are currently performing to help users achieve their goals

  • Support the UX Research Team in sharing and encouraging best practices and ways of working in terms of how we do research, how we share it, present it and make actionable

  • Work with teams in the Content Consumption domain to understand their project priorities and support the UX Research Lead in to start thinking through research strategies for each team, and the domain.

  • Work with Domain Research Lead to ensure research purpose and outcomes are aligned with user needs and business goals. 


Within 6 months

  • Utilise both existing and ongoing research to agree with your team and stakeholders a list of priorities that should be considered for the research strategy.

  • Use other data available (market research, analytics, customer service team insights, external research) to shape the most appropriate user research that will offer deeper insights into how our researchers are using the vast and complex landscape of services to achieve their goals

  • Work with the UX Research Lead to design and socialize the research strategy

  • Plan and conduct research 

  • Start working closely with UXers in Content Consumption to help with scoping, planning and execution of their own research projects 

  • Help teams use the outcomes of the research to feed into designs, but also project roadmaps, product strategies and domain OKRs

  • Help teams plan just enough research so that findings are available at the right time in delivery teams but also make sure they recognize the importance of being proactive about discovering user needs and opportunities 

  • Understand how the work within the Content Consumption domain fits into the end to end experience of users 

Beyond 12 months

  • You will have conducted and communicated the insights of your first pieces of research

  • You will do the necessary work to make sure research is used and understood by stakeholders to make strategic decisions

  • You will mentor, or coach, our colleagues that will participate in research activities with you as well as less experienced researchers in Content Consumption domain to increase research literacy 

  • You will keep observing the market and its trends to recommend our business how to improve our offer and add value to our product and services

  • You will find ways to improve your research activities in order to have a more efficient approach to research

  • As the voice of the user with the domain and department, you will proactively promote UX research within Content Consumption and SN Technology 

  • You will have supported the Research Team at shaping a culture of sharing actionable and clear findings to make research accessible and relevant for our business.
