Purpose of the role:
This is an excellent opportunity for a product manager who wants to shape our vision for an innovative product that delights customers and supports the delivery of Springer Nature Open Research strategy.
Our product caters for a complex set of user needs in the Open Access space, enabling Researchers to request funding for publication of their articles, transferring publication rights and in some cases, completing the payment. It also supports all aspects of processing of the APC coverage requests by institutional customers.
You will work closely with the Group Product Manager, end users, stakeholders and internal development teams, focussing on the broadly-defined payment journey for our individual and institutional customers, ensuring their experience is intuitive and frictionless. It is both a challenging and highly rewarding role, and an opportunity to influence the direction of one of the core products in the Springer Nature portfolio.
Within 3-6 months, you will…

Develop a good understanding of customer problems, engage with customers, validate your understanding of the market and customer needs

Utilise customer research and data insights to influence the direction of product development

Collaborate with internal delivery teams to identify viable solutions to customer problems, optimise core user journeys and improve internal system capabilities

Lead or take active part in insight validation and solution scoping

Develop the roadmap for your team

If needed, oversee the Agile delivery of individual workstreams within the programme, contribute to the prioritisation of user and business needs and manage day-to-day liaison with implementation teams
Within 12 months you will…

Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, partners and other Product Managers to co-create, and execute a product strategy that meets customer, commercial and technical needs

Deliver measurable improvements to the Researchers and institutional customers experience and advocate the importance of user engagement

Work with Product leadership and partners within Springer Nature to ensure we create a coherent user experience across SN platforms and products, aligned with overall Springer Nature product portfolio strategy

Champion and represent the product management discipline inside and outside Springer Nature and ensure we keep up to date with best practices
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
-
Experience of developing and managing customer-facing software products as part of an Agile team ( academic publishing experience valuable, but not essential)

Experience of data-informed and user-led product development

Experience working in fast-paced organisations, managing complexity and balancing strategic thinking with focus on the detail

Experience of working collaboratively with third parties and internal, distributed teams

Comfortable and able to communicate effectively across various teams and stakeholder groups, influencing and negotiating to reach consensus

Good relationship-building and very strong stakeholder management skills

Strong analytical skills and ability to quickly absorb and utilise new information

Resilience in overcoming challenges of a complex, fast-changing environment

Understanding of technology sufficient to work effectively with developers

Interest in digital technologies and publishing market trends
