Purpose of the role:

This is a great opportunity for an experienced product manager who wants to shape our vision for an innovative product that delights customers and contributes to making scientific research open to all.

Our product supports Researchers requesting funding for publication of their articles and, in some cases, completing the payment for publication, as well as institutional customers and funding organisations.

It is an exciting opportunity for an individual who enjoys a dynamic environment:  you will join a talented, multi-disciplinary team and collaborate closely with end users and business stakeholders, focussing on the broadly-defined funding, payment and publication rights transfer experience for our individual and institutional customers.  The role is both challenging and highly rewarding - and offers an opportunity to influence the direction of one of the key products in the Springer Nature portfolio.

This role will report to the Group Product Manager and can be based in London (UK) or Lisbon (Portugal).

Within 3-6 months, you will…

  • Lead an agile development team in creating a superior experience for researchers and institutional customers

  • Meet with end users and build understanding of their core needs

  • Sponsor and apply original customer research to influence the direction of product development

  • Collaborate with internal delivery teams to identify viable solutions to customer problems

  • Develop and communicate the roadmap for your team

  • Work closely with other members of the Springer Nature product organisation to ensure we design a coherent, seamless experience

Within 12 months you will…

  • Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, partners and other Product Managers to co-create and execute a product strategy that meets customer, commercial and technical needs

  • Deliver measurable improvements to the Researchers and institutional customers experience and advocate the importance of user engagement

  • Work with Product leadership and partners within Springer Nature to ensure we create a coherent user experience across SN platforms and products, aligned with overall Springer Nature product portfolio strategy

  • Champion and represent the product management discipline inside and outside Springer Nature and ensure we keep up to date with best practices

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience of developing and managing customer-facing software products as part of an Agile team (academic publishing experience not essential)

  • Experience of data-informed and user-led product development

  • Experience working in fast-paced organisations, managing complexity and balancing strategic thinking with focus on the detail

  • Experience of working collaboratively with third parties and internal, distributed teams

  • Comfortable and able to communicate effectively  across various teams and stakeholder groups, influencing and negotiating to reach consensus

  • Good relationship-building and very strong stakeholder management skills

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to quickly absorb and utilise new information

  • Resilience in overcoming challenges of a complex, fast-changing environment

  • Understanding of technology sufficient to work effectively with developers

  • Interest in digital technologies and publishing market trends #LI-CO1
