Associate Publisher (m/f/d), Journals Mathematics

Fixed Term contract for 1 year

 

Springer is seeking to appoint an Associate Publisher to manage a portfolio of mathematics journals within a strategic framework determined by the Publisher. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, as building and maintaining strong working relationships with authors, editors-in-chief, associate editors and other partners, both external and internal, is essential to this role.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of journals
  • Acquire topical collections and special issues
  • Identify potential editorial board members and important topics by researching new and emerging trends in the market, both national and international
  • Develop relationships with academics, researchers, editors, etc., in order to maintain a network of subject-area experts
  • Maintain existing journal portfolio relationships with editors-in-chief, editorial board members, authors, etc.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and develop journal proposals, including managing the external peer review process
  • Negotiate contract terms with journal editors
  • Assist authors with manuscript preparation as needed
  • Business travel (domestic/international) as required

 

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

 

Essential

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
  • Have excellent English language skills, both verbal and written
  • Be numerate and IT systems-literate, with a sharp eye for detail
  • Previous experience in an office/administrative role
  • Be a diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stake-holders
  • Be able to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and work independently in a team environment
  • Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
  • Excellent networking skills

 

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a publishing/editorial role
  • Knowledge of the academic/scholarly publishing industry and/or a desire to learn more about it
  • Background or interest in mathematics or other STEM subject
