 Purpose of the Role

As part of the Corporate Sales team at Springer Nature, the “New Business” Licensing Manager will be responsible for building a pipeline of new opportunities and winning new business with corporations that are leading the way in R&D in the Physical Sciences. Key sectors include: Software, Hardware, Finance/Banking, Food Science, Engineering, Automotive, Aerospace. 


The New Business Licensing Manager (aka Regional Sales Manager) will join a team of highly motivated Sales Reps, who enjoy addressing exciting challenges in their assigned markets, by positioning our market-leading research publications (such as Nature journal) and data/analytics solutions to new customers. This B2B sales role requires insight and the ability to define creative ways to generate revenue while adapting to changing market conditions and customer demands across a variety of vertical markets. The right candidate will demonstrate discipline, organization, and self-motivation, all while enjoying being an active contributor to a globally-distributed team. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the future strategy for your regional market segments, working in close proximity to your partners in Product and Marketing. You will be part of a team with a strong future vision and sales drive. Individuals with a creative approach to problem-solving and strong analytical skills will thrive in this unique and challenging new opportunity. You will collaborate with internal business partners in a variety of departments to successfully convert inbound leads, while also building an engagement strategy for new contacts. Must have a positive attitude, an interest to learn & grow continually, and a true interest in collaborating proactively with team members.


Flexible work arrangements are available for this role in the Northeast or West Coast. 


Role responsibilities will include:

  • Drive sales growth in the corporate sector, using a consultative, customer-centric, and data-driven approach to close business with net-new customers
  • Use industry insights to identify and prioritize new business opportunities and target markets
  • Build strong relationships with new customers through a high level of interaction, including virtual meetings/calls, site visits, conferences, presentations, and email marketing/lead gen 
  • Demonstrate competence and knowledge of Springer and Nature products and platforms
  • Maintain awareness of current global science, medicine, technology and information industry trends; feedback important insights to Product & Marketing teams
  • Produce sales/business reports and maintain a healthy, evolving sales pipeline
  • Drive mutually beneficial, value-focused negotiations with new customers
  • Negotiate contract terms with new customers to accurately reflect their intended use case
  • Establish and build strong working relationships with internal Springer Nature departments and team members, in order to: manage and influence local customer engagement initiatives, address customer service issues, identify custom solutions, and successfully deliver services to our new customers, in order to achieve individual and group sales targets
  • Responsible for client satisfaction and territory revenue
  • Serve as an industry expert for key Springer Nature products, including acting as an informed and trusted advisor to Springer Nature customers, while driving customer interest in new products and services, especially data products and analytics solutions
  • Provide presentations that effectively communicate the value of Springer Nature products, for example at industry conferences and in industry association events
  • Perform other related duties as required


Experience & qualifications are required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Significant experience in B2B new business development, in the corporate sector; experience selling in Tech and Engineering is ideal, but not required
  • Strengths in solution-based, consultative selling & negotiations at the B2B level
  • Experience developing well conceptualized proposals and negotiating complex contracts, using a consultative, customer-centric approach
  • Proven ability to understand and effectively communicate with multiple functional groups, both internally and externally
  • Experience utilizing CRM systems to track account activity and territory progress
  • Occasional domestic travel up to 40%
