Position: Editorial Assistant, Books Editorial Service Team, Science and Technology (S&T)

Location: New York, NY

 

We are looking for an Editorial Assistant to provide operational support to our publishing editors’ books portfolios. The Editorial Assistant provides a vital role in supporting the Editorial team by ensuring that the S&T list is managed efficiently, that our authors receive a high quality of publication service, and that our books are published to the highest standards. As well as providing core support to the Editorial team, the role involves building excellent working relationships and day-to-day administration. This will be a permanent position based out oh our New York office. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Database and systems management
  • Managing editorial processes incl. Contracts, Peer review process, MS development and Handover to Production, and Post-Publication tasks.
  • Liase with authors/ editors to manage content development from signing to publication. 
  • Liaising with colleagues in Production and Editorial
  • Liaising with colleagues in different COEs, OA, Editorial Rights, Author services

 
Experience, skills and qualifications

  • Experience from a professional activity in editorial/publishing or university degree, preferably in a relevant field of study
  • Have excellent team-working skills to deal with people within the company and externally at all levels
  • Be a diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stake-holders
  • Be able to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and be able to work on their own initiative
  • Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
  • Be able to demonstrate good publishing business awareness and the ability to learn quickly
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be numerate and IT systems-literate (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with a sharp eye for detail
  • Preferably have experience working in academic publishing in an entry-level editorial role
  • Fluency in English, both orally an written
