The Associate Editor will acquire and publish content within part of an existing Food Science books program. Drive growth of program and develop own portfolio working with food science team as part of the strategically defined overall portfolio of the publishing unit. Actively identifies and pursues new relevant areas for growth. 





  • Identify editors/authors and support them in the submission, review and contracting of book proposals
  • Solicit, read and evaluate book proposals offered by editors/authors, as well as assess their suitability for the list
  • Meet goals set by editorial management such as contracts signed and manuscripts handed over to production
  • Manage any assigned titles or book series in the Food Science list and maintain profitable relationships with book series' boards, authors and advisors
  • Negotiate contract terms with authors/editors as well as prepare and executes publishing contracts
  • Remain a point of contact for authors/editors throughout the publication process
  • Research market trends and perform competitive research on a national and international level in the subject area of Food Science
  • Business travel (domestic/international) as required
  • Pursues an active and efficient acquisitions policy through correspondence, meetings/conferences, telephone, etc.  Works in conjunction with internal food science editors as well as demonstrates strong initiative and independent functioning 
  • Maintains and develops a circle of reviewers and advisors and evaluates their judgments
  • Maintains continuous cooperation and dialogues with marketing and production concerning individual projects as well as general questions of mutual interest




  • Previous publishing/acquisitions experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills required 
  • Must be willing and able to travel
  • Be a diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stake-holders
  • Be able to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and be able to work on their own initiative
  • Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
  • Have excellent team-working skills to deal with people within the company and externally at all levels
  • Excellent networking skills
