Purpose of role:


Imposition, preflight, over matter, process colours, widows & orphans. If you know what these words refer to, then Macmillan Education South Africa wants you. We are looking to appoint a production controller with experience in book production in the publishing or related industries to join our team. The role combines the application of related know-how to manage production processes and work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful achievement of all project deliverables.





  • Knowledge of Adobe apps/DTP software including but not limited to Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in production control.
  • National Senior Certificate
  • Related tertiary qualification.
  • Electronic origination experience
  • Printing experience
  • Educational book publishing will be advantageous
  • Excellent stakeholder (both internal and external) engagement
  • Project management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office
  • Well organised with excellent planning skills
  • Certificate in electronic origination/composition TT
  • Excellent industry related technical skills/knowledge
  • Punctuality and deadline driven
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple projects






Key Responsibilities:


  • Technical checks on designs, artwork and proofs.
  • Liaising with relevant departments to facilitate production processes.
  • Commissioning and liaising with typesetters.
  • Managing projects to ensure milestones are achieved, deadlines are met, quality is maintained and budgets are monitored.
