Senior Data Engineer

 

Purpose of Role 
A Senior Data Engineer in Global Business Systems will be a member of a Data Engineering team responsible for designing & delivering a highly robust & scalable cloud data platform for Springer Nature. This role offers the opportunity to blend data engineering, data science and deep digital analytics expertise and is key to the Springer Nature strategy to build advanced data capabilities within the organisation


Key Tasks
•    Develop, maintain, and support data pipelines using best practices, performing a lead role as both a product owner and advising other product owner engineering teams.
•    Work closely with other data engineers, Project teams, business stakeholders and analysts defining the data model and build & maintain data products for consumption at the analytics layer.
•    Ensure architecture meets business requirements and aligns with Company strategy
•    Recommend ways to efficiently provide quality data and added value

 

Key relationships 
•    Stakeholders within the global business, including various Analytics teams 
•    Multiple data source Product/Technical owners
•    Project Manager & Programme delivery teams
•    Peers within the Technology teams, specifically Business Systems, Digital Systems
•    Third party vendors, partners and resources

 

Qualifications 

University degree with a strong analytical/quantitative background or equivalent experience (e.g. Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Physics, Computer Science etc.)

 

Key Skills;
•    Experience with Cloud data platforms (preferably Google), Python, strong SQL and a variety of ETL tools is essential.
•    Understanding of data warehousing and data lake concepts, experience in building operational ETL data pipelines across a number of sources, and constructing relational and dimensional data models is required. Knowledge of the data mesh concept desirable.
•    Experience in an SAP & Salesforce data environment is desirable.
•    Experience of Google Data Studio, Looker & Tableau is desirable.
•    Demonstrable experience of using data engineering in achieving the wider goals and strategy of the business
•    Well organized with strong written, oral communication, interpersonal and presentation skills and accurate with good time management

 

Experience 
•    Extensive experience working in a similar or comparable role i.e. specific experience of at least 3 Projects in a Data Engineering role.
•    Prior experience working within a complex multinational organisation. 
•    Working with other data engineers, project teams, Business users, translating requirements into & building data models & some work with reporting & visualisation tools.
•    Excellent working knowledge of SQL, Python, cloud data engineering platforms and database engineering principles
•    Excellent working knowledge of a variety of ETL tools (preferably including Qlik)
•    Experience with Google Cloud Platform preferred:  Bigquery, Dataflow, Cloud Composer etc.
•    Demonstrable experience of using data engineering in achieving the wider goals and strategy of the business
