Purpose of the Role 

 

The Product Operations Manager will work with product managers, business analysts, engineering and various cross-functional team members as both customers and partners to improve and manage Springer Nature product development processes as well as product offering itself with the initiatives they lead, support and implement.

 

The Product Operations Manager will be an advocate for the product management discipline and will understand the benefits of frameworks/processes and how to optimise them in a way that is effective in delivering value whilst being as efficient and lightweight as possible.

 

The role will be both a strong individual contributor with the ability and desire to simultaneously think strategically, but also effectively review processes and execute on plans. This role will report to the EVP Product and Platform Group under the Chief Solutions Officer.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Work together with product teams to define, operationalise, and implement continuous improvements within the product development process
  • Identify,improve and standardise typical ‘business as usual’ behaviours that warrant automating or creating a more robust process around
  • Strengthen product feedback loop: Facilitate regular analysis and feedback cycles with product and key partner teams to find efficiencies
  • Enable product teams to run more experiments: Support our ‘test & learn’ approach to product development, driving the process around it and ensuring we are reaching targets
  • Assist with ongoing product planning, road mapping and prioritisation processes
  • Streamline communication between the product teams and other teams in the organisation
  • Manage tools (e.g. for roadmapping, prototyping, product analytics) that the product teams use, including onboarding and training
  • Facilitate consistent and regular reporting about product performance, feature releases and customer insights
  • Constantly evolve and deliver our new starter onboarding process to get new Product Managers and Product Designers onboarded as quickly and efficiently as possible
  • Organise and help deliver regular training so the team get the most out of the process, tools, knowledge, and insights we have access to
  • Support cross-functional initiatives like our internal Product Academy
  • Help leadership to build a sense of community within the product team
  • Produce and update standard templates, ensuring all the artefacts the team use are always up to date and constantly being improved
  • Develop and continuously improve the systems and artefacts that teams use to document their work across the product lifecycle
  • Works with Product leadership to ensure that managed products are aligned to overall company product portfolio and strategy.
  • Drives productive strategic stakeholder and senior management relationships and creates strategic alliances to ensure the product team can excel.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in product operations, product management, or an operational role that worked closely with product, business, and engineering teams
  • Experience working in fast paced organisations, managing uncertainty and balancing thinking strategically but also focusing on the detail to deliver tangible customer value
  • Experience defining and implementing cross-functional processes
  • Experience with Agile ways of working and artefacts
  • Data analysis and business reporting experience
  • Not essential, but it would be interesting if you've also had: Previous startup or scale up experience, user-centred product design, knowledge of practices and disciplines

  • The ability to work closely with people across teams: engineering, marketing, commercial and finance
  • A curious mind that enables you to self-learn about new operational or problem areas
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to operate equally well autonomously or collaboratively to deliver improvements

Qualifications
