Business Area and Mission

The Publishing Performance and Intelligence Group (PP&I) aims to help deliver the next generation digital publishing at Springer Nature and as a result, grow the number of published articles, especially in open access (OA). Working closely with the Journals Group, Production, IT, Marketing and Customer Service we support increasing the number of transfers or articles between journals, commissioning new collections and strengthening editor engagement, as well as supporting and enhancing the end-to-end publishing process.


The Centre of Excellence (CoE) team aims to drive continuous improvement with PP&I teams and their stakeholders including Operations, Technology, Customer Services, Research Sales and Marketing, Finance and others. We align, agree, plan and drive the implementation of new/improved workflows/processes, systems and tools within the end-to-end publishing process.


Purpose of the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the CoE team for those who are passionate about solving publishing workflow problems. Reporting to the Head of Implementation and Workflow Services, the Implementation Manager will provide excellent project management expertise across the SN Journals portfolio to ensure important workflow initiatives can be delivered in a timely and efficient way. Experience of publishing workflows and an understanding of how journals work is key. This role seeks to optimise the publication experience for authors and researchers by embracing and implementing change into our journal workflows whilst maintaining Springer Nature's high standards.


What will you be doing:

  • Support various teams involved in the publishing process to implement and adopt new workflows and processes.
  • Work closely with the journal publishing teams to ensure progress against intitiatives is well communicated.
  • Provide project management and implementation support for key workflow inititatives across the Journals division.
  • Provide project level reporting for the wider Journals business stream.
  • Contribute to an overall project status tracker for all CoE activities.


What we are looking for:

  • 3 to 5 years experience in similar roles.
  • In-depth understanding of the workflows and processes that underpin the Journal submission-to-publication journey.
  • Excellent project and programme management experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the research publishing community and its needs.
  • Experience of negotiation; experience of successfully integrating customer and operational requirements.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills using MS Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders.
