Head of Operations, Researcher Training Solutions

Purpose of the Role 

 

The Head of Operations, Researcher Training Solutions is an exciting new role within the Training Solutions team. This role takes overall responsibility for the effective and efficient operational delivery of our premium-quality live training products, as well as for key commercial and strategic aspects of these products.

The ideal candidate will have experience of leading and managing a team to provide a professional, customer-focused service, and of building relationships with multiple key stakeholders to drive forward commercial and strategic aims. This role represents an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your career within operations.

 

Responsibilities 

 

People

  • Provide coaching, management and leadership to the global events teams 
  • Own the relationship with senior and mid-level stakeholders including with Sales and Editorial colleagues globally to maximise engagement with the Nature Masterclasses live training products.

 

 

Operational and events management

  • Oversee the effective and efficient operational delivery of live training including workshops, webinars and events associated with online learning.
  • Ensure quality and customer satisfaction standards are maintained in keeping with the identity of our prestigious brand. 
  • Take hands-on responsibility for the successful delivery and quality control of a number of key strategic accounts. 
  • Identify, develop and implement improvements to operational processes to drive efficiency, improve quality and increase flexibility and scalability
  • Ensure the events and operations team is properly resourced
  • Liaise with Legal to help resolve any queries from Sales or customers, and to arrange adjustments to contracts where necessary.

 

Commercial and strategic

  • Manage the full revenue/direct costs budgets for live training products 
  • Take responsibility for the commercial planning of live training workshops, including input into financial forecasting
  • Optimise the pricing and delivery model for live training products based on market analysis, forecasting and financial modelling
  • Monitor the commercial health of the products in the Training Solutions team, leading meetings with sales colleagues in different regions to ensure that a strategic focus is given to any potential shortfall
  • Work with colleagues across the Training Solutions team to develop the product portfolio to meet the needs of customers whilst delivering operational effectiveness
  • Work closely with sales to drive forward new strategic/major business opportunities (e.g. by drafting project initiation documents and RACIs, leading exploratory meetings, establishing goals, pilots, commercial planning etc.)
  • Work within and beyond the Research Solutions division to identify potential collaboration opportunities with live training and scope out their operational and commercial viability
  • Together with other management colleagues, represent and advocate for the Training Solutions product portfolio within and beyond the organisation
  • Work with colleagues to lead and manage change as our division continues to grow and evolve
  • Identify, monitor and deliver on appropriate KPIs and OKRs for the operations and events team

 

Experience, skills and qualifications 

 

Essential

Significant proven experience of:

  • People management in an operations- or events-focused role 
  • Budget management and forecasting (including P&Ls)
  • Creating, managing and improving processes
  • Working with stakeholders at multiple levels
  • Management of F2F and virtual live events

 

 

Desirable:

  • Line management of a global team in different timezones
  • Knowledge of the researcher environment particularly in relation to the journals publishing process
  • Experience of working within a complex organisation

 

 

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, problem-solve and make clear decisions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with and influence colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of seniority
  • Proven strong analytical skills
  • Strong commercial drive and financial acumen (including excellent excel skills and the ability to model out scenarios), along with an interest in revenue potential and development
  • Willingness to learn, understand and apply new processes and technologies
