We’re looking for an ambitious leader to join us as the Head of Marketing Strategy for the Corporate and Trade segments, developing our B2B strategy and guiding its execution. The role involves developing a clear understanding of corporate R&D market segments for Books and Journals products, including how and why purchasing decisions are made, what motivates key decision makers and how marketing can successfully influence these decisions. It involves developing and maintain a close working relationship with Business Development and Corporate sales teams, it will  focus on pharma, life sciences and other high R&D sectors. The role has a global remit, taking a leading role in the development of targeted campaigns to drive lead generation and sales, working closely with Marketing Planning and Operations teams.  

 

Trade sales (sales through bookshops and online retailers) is a substantial revenue driver for Springer Nature with its own unique challenges and opportunities. The role involves understanding the market dynamics and working with planning, sales and technology groups to drive effective and efficient marketing activity.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop clear models of customer purchasing and decision making behavior for different product types and industries.
  • Work with Business development and Sales to identify target industries for customer acquisition, lead the development of marketing campaigns to target these industries.
  • Develop a strategic approach to marketing of books to the retail trade and how audience delivery can be optimized within the constraints of budget and team size.
  • Develop commercially focused performance measures for Corporate Marketing success, ensure that these are understood and supported by key stakeholders (especially sales teams and senior leadership). Communicate stretching targets for these KPIs and ensure that marketing activity from across the group delivers on hitting these targets
  • Work with Business Development, product and publishing teams to understand current and planned developments and ensure that these are built into marketing plans.
  • Control corporate marketing budgets and ensure spend is on budget.
  • Lead communication and implementation of strategy across different teams in Marketing and beyond.
  • Be seen as a key business partner for sales teams in development and delivery of strategy.
  • Adhoc duties as needed


Experience/Qualifications required:

  • University degree, preferable in science / business / marketing / engineering or a similar qualification
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of Business to Business marketing. 
  • In-depth experience of developing and executing successful B2B marketing strategies, including market sizing, segmentation, buyer behavior and persona insights; proposition development and messaging; and designing effective content-led lead generation programs
  • Presenting and Influencing at a senior level – including Sales Directors and VPs to gain buy in and support
  • Leading cross functional projects, and influencing in a matrix environment
  • Experience of corporate R&D including life sciences and pharma, is desirable
  • Analytical thinking and the ability to synthesize complex numerical and textual data to produce clear recommendations
  • Presenting and influencing skills
  • Confident in using a range analytics programs to extract and manipulate data – Excel, Data Studio, Google Analytics
  • Professional qualification in marketing would be advantageous
