Editorial Perfomance Manager (fixed-term contract)

Fixed-term contract, full-time

The Springer Nature Journals group aims to support researchers in communicating and advancing discovery for a better world. We do this by providing a trusted environment in which researchers can quickly, easily and transparently share their discoveries, data and research stories.

As Editorial Performance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the success of critical journal development projects across the Open Access Academic Journal Portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Editorial Performance, Academic Journals, and supported by a team of Editorial Coordinators, you will work with publishers and operations to implement workflow and operational process improvements, drive journal improvement projects, and provide ongoing support for editorial board and journal pipeline management. The role is varied and involves working with a range of stakeholders and systems.

The responsibilities include:


  • Responsible for creating, owning and implementing full project plans. This will include identifying the project milestones, dependencies, resources, risks and deliverables, and scheduling of all components of a project.
  • Coordinate with editorial, publishing, marketing and other key internal stakeholders to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Proactively and frequently communicate project timelines to the project team (including team members from other departments, and colleagues in other locations if appropriate).
  • Provide regular reports regarding the project status and required actions to the team and stakeholders involved.
  • Monitor KPIs and metrics for ongoing projects and present the findings to key stakeholders on an agreed-upon schedule.
  • Build strong internal relationships with relevant teams to inform projects and optimise delivery.
  • Act as a trusted interface between editorial, publishing and other departments as needed.
  • Think creatively and be adaptive in finding solutions, analyze risk issues for the project and define mitigation strategies.
  • Assist the Head of Editorial Performance with managing the team responsible for administrative tasks necessary for project success and for long-term centralized functions needed to support editorial teams across your portfolios.
  • And any other reasonable task.


To be considered for the position, you will have:


  • Previous experience in project management with a track record of success.
  • Thorough understanding of the needs of authors, referees, and external editors as key customers.
  • Experience of working with a range of stakeholders, internal and external.
  • Experience in editorial and/or publishing preferred.
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, ability to work under pressure/tight deadlines. Keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent conflict management skills (problem solver). Track record of identifying issues/inefficiencies and using own initiative to suggest solutions/improvements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and stakeholder management.
  • Team worker – evidence of positive interaction across various teams. Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.

This information is only applicable to US-based candidates and the actual salary offer may vary based on work experience, education and skill level. Annualized Base Salary Range: $82,114- $90,000.
