Job Title: Editorial Assistant, Books Editorial Service Team, Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS)

Location: Kings Cross, London (Hybrid Working)

Full Time, Permanent role

We are looking for an energetic and highly organised Editorial Assistant to provide operational support to our publishing editors books portfolios. The Editorial Assistant provides a vital role in supporting the Editorial team by ensuring that the HSS list is managed efficiently, that our authors receive a high quality of publication service, and that our books are published to the highest standards. As well as providing core support to the Editorial team, the role involves building excellent working relationships with internal teams such as Production, and day-to-day administration. 


Responsibilities


- Managing editorial processes, including the peer review process for new proposals
- Preparing final typescripts for handover to production
- Database and systems management

- Liaising with academics during the peer review process
- A wide range of administrative tasks including processing payments
- Liaising with authors as well as with colleagues in Production and Editorial

 

Experience, Skills & Qualifications
 

Experience

 

- Office experience, including using MS Office and Google Suite

- Experience of working in academic publishing in an entry-level editorial role would be an advantage

- Project management experience would also be an advantage as this role requires a high level of organizational skills.

- Have excellent team-working skills to deal with people within the company and externally at all levels
- Be a diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stake-holders
- Be able to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and be able to work on their own initiative
- Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
- Be able to demonstrate good publishing business awareness and the ability to learn quickly
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be numerate and IT systems-literate, with a sharp eye for detail.

 

Qualifications

 

- Degree educated
