Content Designer - Platforms


We’re looking for a content designer to join our digital team. You will be part of the Springer Nature global UX team and embedded within a virtual team working to transform our main platforms, including Nature.com, Springerlink and Springernature.com, to better serve researchers. The job is currently mainly remote. When we’re allowed back to the office, the job can be based in London, Berlin or Lisbon with some working from home (up to 4 days). You will be working with colleagues in Berlin, Heidelberg, New York and Pune, so expect some travel.

The Work

We work for an audience of millions of researchers across the world and offer a portfolio of products and services covering all aspects of publishing and how it supports research careers.  Our customers have all sorts of language and information needs.  You’ll be working within SN digital to implement radical changes in how we speak to our users through the products and services we offer, making them clearer and more useful in ways that promote our business goals.  

 

You will work with the Lead Content Strategists, UX Designers and Product Managers to ensure you are applying the right voice to our products. As a UX copywriter for digital products, you will be collaborating closely with designers in teams to ensure that the products make sense holistically. As part of a new design discipline in SND, you will support the content strategists in helping to promote good practices and tools to help those less familiar with content design do what they can themselves, and know when to ask for help.  

 

Your work will be research-driven and you will be comfortable taking an iterative approach as we learn more about where we can make a real difference.  Familiar with user research techniques, and happy to support obtaining business-relevant metrics, you will be able to support measuring the impact of changes made. 

 

Your principal collaborators will be within digital but can expect to collaborate with a wide range of business areas.

 

What you will be doing

Within 3 months

 

You will:

 

  • Understand our internal customers, the way the digital department works and the problems we’re trying to solve.
  • Start to collaborate with designers to uncover and solve UI challenges.
  • Get familiar with the research we have  - where it helps you and where we have gaps.
  • Audit and Improve the performance of our content in at least one high-impact area.
  • Start to collaborate with designers to uncover and solve UI challenges.
  • Collaborate on developing the documentation we need to cover tone, guidance, accessibility, etc.


Within 6 months

  • Improved significant amounts of copy, with demonstrable results.
  • Continue to work with stakeholders and colleagues in digital to rationalise, simplify and improve copy across our websites and products. 
  • Start working with the relevant design and UX leads to work out what the digital department needs to do to develop a culture of good practice. 
  • Work with our in-house accessibility experts to identify and improve the accessibility of all our writing.
  • Engage in user research and discovery to ensure our approach to writing is meeting the needs of its users.
  • Play a full role in developing the content community within SND and beyond. 


6 months +

  • Continue to create compelling copy that delivers on user, business, and brand needs. 
  • Have positively influenced how all types of content are done inside Research Digital and in critical areas across our business.
  • Be working proactively with multiple teams across many domains and business areas.
  • Champion the importance of excellent writing as an integral part of digital service delivery.
