Associate or Senior Editor, Nature Chemistry

Location: London, Berlin, New York or Shanghai (Hybrid Working)

Full Time, Permanent Role

Closing Date: 12th December 2022

Nature Chemistry is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to join its editorial team. The journal publishes high-quality papers in all areas of chemistry and also features commentary and analysis from and for the wider chemistry community. For more information about the journal, see our website (http://www.nature.com/nchem).

Applicants must have a PhD in a chemistry-related discipline and the ideal candidate will have expertise in chemical biology or biological chemistry. The role will cover a wide-range of topics such as, for example, biocatalysis, bioconjugates and medicinal chemistry, as well as the chemistry of peptides, proteins, nucleic acids and natural products. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a general interest in other areas of research beyond their own. Postdoctoral experience may be an advantage but is not required. Editorial experience is also not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for a Senior Editor position

The successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor of the journal. They will handle original research papers and work both independently and closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review. They will also be involved in the commissioning and editing of Review, Comment and News & Views articles, as well as writing editorial content for the journal.

This is a challenging and intellectually stimulating role that calls for a highly motivated individual with demonstrable literary skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely fashion and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the chemistry community through laboratory visits and international conferences (both online and in person), therefore the successful candidate must be confident and enthusiastic about communicating with fellow scientists and willing to travel (when appropriate and required).

This role can be located in our London, Berlin, New York or Shanghai offices based on a hybrid working pattern and on a full-time, permanent basis.

The paper you highlight should not be from your own (or previous) research group or from Nature Chemistry and should be on a topic that you find interesting and exciting. The highlight should explain the significance and implications of the research to someone who is not a specialist in the subject.
