Architecture & Assurance Lead 


Short Summary of the Division

The Cyber Security Team is responsible for the monitoring, vulnerability management, assurance, security architecture, infrastructure, and the secure development lifecycle within Springer Nature.


Purpose of the Role

The role is to provide management support to a team of cyber security specialists and offer consultative support to the business on Cyber Security projects, requirements and threat landscape. Such activities enable Springer Nature to improve the current Cyber Security posture on a global scale.



Determine security requirements and lead the security architecture strategy.

Provide leadership, coordination, and operational management of assurance and architecture personnel.

Provide direct reports support in areas such as onboarding, day to day activities and regular objective setting.

Ensure the alignment of the security vision, strategy, process, people, and technology across the organisation.

Regular reporting of security metrics to the Head of Cyber and other interested parties.

Execute gap analysis of existing architecture and make recommendations on improvements.

Design and build security into the organisation.

Review and collect asset data.

Determine the strength and appropriateness of logical and technical designs.

Identify and communicate current and emerging threats and with the wider IT Ops to mitigate them.


Facilitate threat models and data flow diagrams.

Develop, implement, and review architectural policies.

Drive the security champion model within the architecture discipline.

Nurture intra-team relationships and influence cross-organisational leaders.

Manage 3rd party relationships.


Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Extensive architecture and cyber security experience.

Evaluating business strategies, requirements and security concerns.

Cloud security considerations.

Conducting risk assessments.

Designing and implementing security solutions.



A genuine interest in cyber security.

Good working knowledge of:

threat models and data flows.

security principles and technologies.

application and infrastructure design review.

common data ingestion patterns.

networking protocols.

logging and event correlation.

operating systems.

anomaly detection.

Able to work within a diverse team.

Able to articulate the strategic goals of the team



Computer Science degree.

Security related certification.
