The Books Editorial Projects Management group provides a core service during the publication process to our authors and editors and a best-in-class author experience. The group is structured into 3 main global disciplinary groups (Humanities & Social Sciences, Sciences & Technology and Medicine & Life Sciences) and 3 local disciplinary groups for GLS following the same structure.

 

Responsibilities & core tasks

 

  1. Leads, manages and motivates the team members in their team.
  2. Work with the other Team Managers (Discipline) to ensure all book projects are adequately resourced by the Editorial Services team to ensure delivery to agreed deadlines.
  3. Work with the other Team Managers (Discipline) to develop and identify knowledge gaps towards training and development.
  4. Participating in regular editorial service team meetings.
  5. Implementing targets and suitable KPIs to measure the performance & efficiency from an End-to-End perspective of their respective teams.
  6. Provide the Head, Projects Management with project management reports and identifying project successes, delays and risks.
  7. Co-develop and apply guiding principles & procedures within the group in order to set up a highly performing environment and best way of working suitable for the respective discipline portfolio, together with the Head, Projects Management.
  8. Implementing targets and suitable KPIs in close collaboration with Editorial, Production and vendors, and within the Books Editorial Projects Management, to support authors and editors in order to deliver against our publishing targets in time, volume and quality including closely monitoring HoMSR and HoTP for their discipline. 
  9. Representing the discipline team, participates in and supports several workflow transformation, standardization & improvement programmes by providing input and managing implementation within the team while developing clear guidelines re. workflows (TPR, Contracting, Plagiarism), product-related needs (OA, MyBookSubmission, Textbook), etc.
  10. Coordinates and supports editorial and authors re. conceptual planning of its own list of titles and provides guidelines re. manuscript preparations, relevant policies, formal or technical requirements etc.

 

Experience, skills and qualifications

 

  • A thorough understanding of our Books publication process and workflows that underpin the acquisition-to-publication journey for Books and an advanced knowledge of relevant internal systems and interfaces
  • A deep knowledge of our Books portfolio, our Publishing process and roadmap,
  • Excellent Communication skills and motivational capabilities in order to engage staff and teams to take them on the journey and to develop their skills
  • Significant Project Management experience and proven success in managing a larger portfolio of titles including a variety of associated tasks across multiple interfaces.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset and approach - demonstrated by previous involvement and assignments and the ability to work successfully in a complex matrix environment
  • Proactive, solution-driven with hands-on mentality and strong sense for prioritization and continuous improvement
  • Language proficiency: Fluent written and oral communication in English is mandatory
