The Data and Analytics Solutions product management team is seeking a digital product manager for a 12-month maternity cover to oversee the ‘Data Intelligence’ Value Stream. In this Value Stream, the product manager will oversee existing products and help develop new products that serve various data-intensive use cases in life science and related industries (e.g., pharma, biotech, healthcare).


This role has two major components; new product development and managing existing products. In the new product development area, the product manager will work closely with market intelligence researchers, software developers, data scientists, and user experience designers. The main task will be to continuously map the opportunity spaces, develop testable prototypes, and bring new, value creating solutions to market. In parallel, the product manager will also work closely with sales and marketing teams to further develop the commercial potential of existing platform-based products.


The deluge of data and advances in digital technologies (e.g. AI/ML, electronic lab notebooks, lab automation, etc.) are fundamentally remaking the life science data space. In this role, the product manager will play an important part by working in the midst of grand transformations that are reinventing the life science ecosystem. Core Responsibilities: New Product Development

  • Owns the ‘Data Intelligence’ product development Value Stream: Manages products in the fast evolving life science data space
  • Works proactively with cross-functional stakeholders, partners and other Product Managers to create, own and execute a user-centric product strategy driven by commercial, technical and customer requirements
  • Sponsors and supports user research to understand users/customers, and gain confidence in what to build next
  • Works with the Product Director to develop and communicate Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for the Data Intelligence Value Stream. Translates OKRs into a roadmap of prioritised, deliverable goals
  • Champions continuous discovery habits and data-informed approaches while developing testable hypotheses to create desirable, feasible and viable product pipeline(s)
  • Supports prototyping, solution development, and product delivery with one or more Agile development teams by working with software developers, data scientists, and user experience designers
  • Leads Data Intelligence Value Stream projects through the product delivery lifecycle, including maintaining and iterating a product over time to continuously meet evolving user needs
  • When applicable, oversee pilot projects with key collaborators in the life science data ecosystem
  • Continuously monitors life science market and product developments
  • Represents the Product Management discipline inside and outside Springer Nature and ensures that SN keeps-up-to-date with the latest product management practices


Core Responsibilities: Developing Existing Products

  • Oversee commercial development of an existing platform-based life science product
  • Collaborates closely with sales and marketing teams to ensure delivery of highest possible value to users/customers
  • Identify new customer segments and support the commercial strategy process 
  • Design and conduct competitive analyses; maintains updated competitive knowledge base

Basic Qualifications:

  • Educated to a B.S. level in a STEM, business-related, or other applicable field
  • Experience (≥2 years) in product development and/or project management
  • Experience working with software developers, data scientists, and/or other technical functions
  • Basic understanding of product commercialization, e.g., market research, business model design, go-to-market strategy development
  • Knowledge of goal setting practices, including quantitative, qualitative and commercial measures (e.g. OKRs)
  • Ability to use, learn, and apply a wide range of product management principles and approaches
  • Experience in stakeholder management, influencing and negotiation skills, able to facilitate timely decision making
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to effectively tailor messaging to specific stakeholders
  • A voracious curiosity to continuously learn about user problems, potential solutions, industry developments, etc.
  • Fluency in English and German
  • Ability to work with a team that is culturally diverse and globally dispersed across multiple countries and time zones


Preferred, Additional Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of or experience working in the life sciences or a related industry
  • Experience working with sales and marketing teams on go-to-market strategies
  • Familiarity with common web tech stack components (HTML, CSS, SQL, etc.)
