Purpose of the Role 


The Marketing Data, Analytics, and Technology team is driving Springer Nature’s value exchange with the Research Community by enabling the business to make data-driven decisions as well as implementing technologies and automation processes based on data and analytics for effective and efficient marketing & communication.


As part of the Marketing Technology and Data team, we are searching for a Researcher Alerts - Product Manager to Build, enhance, and manage products and services that leverage event-based communication to enable researchers to discover content in their research/subject area, discover new opportunities to publish their own research, and stay closely connected to Springer Nature by updates on their past publications with us.


The job can be based in Berlin (Germany), Lisbon (Portugal), Pune (India), London (UK), or Heidelberg (Germany) and you will work remotely at times with colleagues in many of our global offices, additionally, some travel will be required. Our teams are cross-functional, diverse, and made up of different experience levels. All team members collaborate to deliver the best solutions that satisfy our customers’ needs.



  • Own and continuously improve the researcher alerting products/services
  • Define the future vision and strategy for multi-channel researcher alerting services
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Product teams across Springer Nature to understand the needs of researchers and internal stakeholders and prioritize alerting capabilities that maximize the delivered value 
  • Develop a good understanding of customer problems and pain points, actively seeking opportunities to analyze and validate your understanding of the market and customer needs
  • Establish a clear system for working, capturing ideas, prioritizing features, prototyping, and monitoring all product KPIs and business value measurements
  • Lead or take an active part in insight validation and requirements scoping sessions
  • Own the backlog and roadmap by prioritization and governance of researcher alerting services with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Work closely with partners across Springer Nature to align plans, unblock developments and contribute to creating a coherent user experience across SN platforms and products
  • Stay current with emerging technology and strategies used to support the customer experience and present findings on a regular basis


Skills & Experience 

  • Comfortable communicating across various teams and stakeholder groups
  • Experience with agile product development methods (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Design Thinking, Prototyping) and ability to apply these to new environments
  • Good relationship-building and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work autonomously
  • Able to sort out ambiguity and effectively manage complex messaging
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to quickly absorb and utilize new information
  • Resilience in overcoming challenges of a complex, changing environment
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm for digital technologies, marketing, or publishing industry trends
  • Attention to detail, exceptional project management, and organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects at once 
  • Prior product and commercial experience desirable:
  • Experience in developing products as part of an Agile team, not necessarily in a product role
  • Experience in data-informed and user-led product development
  • Experience in working with distributed development teams
  • Experience working with marketing/alerting products preferred but not essential



  • University degree preferred but not essential
